3rd Week of Reno - 21-27 April

Wiring is in progress. As the permit for hacking the wall between a bedroom and living room was still waiting for approval last week, wiring and false ceiling construction are to put on hold. Good news is that the permit is now approved, so hacking will be done this week. :) I'm so looking forward to see our house getting slowly "dressed up".

We have bought our washing machine from Woodlands Domestic Electrical, located opposite Ginza. The salesman, Roger, is quite helpful. He recommended us Fisher and Paykel MWC12 as it's energy- and water-saving, doesn't entangle clothes and has a smart drive motor. Bought it for $570. As for our fridge, we're still hesitating which brand to get - Panasonic, Fisher & Paykel or Mitsubitshi. We'll get the dimension of our fridge base and ask Roger which brand and model he'll recommend.

2 Weeks Into Reno 9-20 April 2008

The kitchen cabinet, fridge and washing machine bases were completed. The floor was also covered with cardboard for protection.

We have also bought quite a number of things. We got all our lights from De Lite Shop in Balestier at $1310.
Kitchen sink & tap, Ariston 30L storage heater and 2 stainless steel racks for the bathrooms were obtained from Royal Fanco at Jalan Besar for $568. We love the sink as it comes with a soap dispenser attached to it and it has a matt finish that is resistant to scratch.
$1400 Fabric 3-seater sofa & cushions + ottoman + 2 sets of covers and $700 black glass top dining table with 6 chairs were bought from S&C Furniture at Ang Mo Kio. Although the shop is small, they carry many catalogue for people to choose. They make direct shipments from overseas and sell it, therefore the price they give is good. The boss and his wife are honest and their service is excellent. Most probably we'll get other furniture and mattress there too. :)

Hob & Hood

As our kitchen is very small, our table-top space is rather limited. This narrows down the size of hob & hood to about 600mm, thus no fanciful designs. We bought both items at Hoe Kee (IMM) for $615.

Tecno hob (TZ 4000) powered by battery.

Tecno hood (K 296/60). We bought this free standing type instead of those chimney ones because the air-flow for 600mm hoods are about the same and is much cheaper.

Choosing Materials

5 April

Met Miko at 11am in her office to choose materials and colours and finalise details like how the wardrobe and kitchen cabinets will be organised. There are so many different types of materials - colours, textures and prints.

We took 4h to carefully select the laminates we like. It's a tedious but enjoyable experience overall. Really looking forward to see the finished product!

Buying Air-con

After discussion with Miko on 2 April, we realised that we got to get our air-con soon. Therefore on 4 April, we went to IMM to search around. As we seldom on the air-con, getting a non-inverter is cheaper. After several recommendations by the salesmen, we decided to get one with twin compressors as we normally only on the sir-con in the MBR. In the end, we chose Panasonic CS-C9HKZWx3/CU-3C20HKH as we like the design and that it can operate as an air-purifier separately. We bought it for $1799 at All Best, including 2x installation and GST.
